Chakra Anointing Rite

This is based on a similar rite I was given by Odin several years ago.  I won’t share the words of the original rite (as they’re private) but this is a version I am willing to share that would be appropriate for anyone devoted to Odin to do on a regular basis.  The precise words used aren’t actually that important anyway; feel free to tailor them to fit your own relationship with Him as you see fit. The chakras, if you are not familiar with them, are energy centers in the body.

You will need an altar to Odin, of course (if you need some ideas on how to set one up, see this page), preferably with a statue or some kind of representation of Him on it to serve as a focal point.  If you don’t have a statue, you could try making one out of clay or Sculpey if you’re artistic, or otherwise print out a picture you like from the Internet and frame it.  I have framed cards (from rune and Tarot decks) and pictures on several of my altars alongside my statues. You will also need a bottle of some type of essential or perfume oil for the actual anointing.  I use BPAL’s Odin oil, or if I’m out of that something else that suggests or reminds me of Him, such as Wolf Moon.

It is preferable to be skyclad for this, since otherwise the oil will stain your clothing.  Feel free to embellish the rite as you wish; you might, for example, want to light a candle, burn some incense, share some food or drink with Odin, etc.  If you do use incense or scented candles, some fragrances He enjoys include patchouli, dragon’s blood, amber and other dark resins, musk, honey, clove, sandalwood, pepper, vanilla, black currant, rose, and wine/liquor scents.  Dried chamomile or mugwort are good incense alternatives, either burned loose on a charcoal briquette or bound into a smudge stick.

There are two versions of the rite, one for morning and one for bedtime.

Morning rite:

Standing before your altar, take the bottle of oil and put a small amount on your fingertip.  You will be starting with your crown chakra and moving downward.  As you anoint each chakra, visualize a wheel of light emanating from that chakra, and swirling clockwise, in the colors given.

If you have lifetime oaths to Odin and have been marked with the valknut, and/or by His spear, you might also shield each chakra with a valknut in the appropriate color--but this step should be added only by those who are very seriously devoted to Him and who understand and embrace the meaning of this very powerful symbol.

Crown (white or indigo): I am ever mindful of Odin’s presence and guided by His wisdom.
Third eye (violet): My inner sight is strong.  I see with Odin’s vision.
Throat (turquoise): I hear Odin’s words clearly.  My voice serves His work in the world.
Heart (green): My heart is filled with Odin’s love for Midgard and compassion for all who dwell here.  His love flows through me into the world.
Solar plexus (yellow): Odin’s power fills me.  My will is His will.
Sacral (orange): My creativity is strong.  I bring Odin’s inspiration to all I do.

Root (red): My foundations are strong.  I am grounded in Odin’s strength and might.

Palms of hands (white): My hands are strong to do Odin’s work.
Soles of feet (white): My feet are strong to walk where Odin leads me.

Evening rite:

Take the bottle of oil and place a small amount on your fingertip.  Start at your crown chakra and work downwards, visualizing the wheels of colored light as before.

Crown (white or indigo): I release my mind from the worries of the day.

Third eye (violet): My dreams are filled with Odin’s wisdom and guided by His magic.

Throat (turquoise): My inner voices are stilled to allow me to rest peacefully.

Heart (green): My heart is content and at peace.

Solar plexus (yellow): I release the tension from my body that I may sleep deeply.

Sacral (orange): I will awaken in the morning feeling inspired and refreshed.
Root (red): I am secure and safe and grounded in the present moment.

Closing Prayer
:

Svafnir, Luller to Sleep and Dream,

Open the doors of restful sleep for me.
Wanderer, I give my wandering soul
Into Your keeping and protection
As my body rests and renews itself
That I may do Your work again on the morrow.

Hail and good night, my Beloved King.
